The first visiting scholar was Dr. David Jardine, Professor, Faculty of Education, University of Calgary.
The institute was hosted in Toronto with visiting scholar, Dr. John D. Caputo, Professor of Religion Emeritus at Syracuse University and the David R. Cook Professor of Philosophy Emeritus at Villanova University.
Dr. Richard M. Kearney, Charles H. Seelig Chair of Philosophy at Boston College and visiting professor at University College Dublin, was the visiting scholar for the institute held in Calgary, Alberta. During this institute, Dr. Kearney initiated the idea for a journal that could showcase the work he heard from institute participants of bridging philosophy and practice, and out of this suggestion the Journal of Applied Hermeneutics was instituted.
The CHI returned to Halifax and hosted Dr. James Olthuis, Professor Emeritus Professor Philosophical Theology, Institute for Christian Studies, and Psychotherapist, as the visiting scholar.
Toronto, hosted Dr Gail Weiss, Professor, Philosophy and Human Sciences, George Washington University.
Calgary had the privilege of hosting Dr Nicholas Davey, Professor, University of Dundee, Scotland, School of Humanities.
Halifax had the pleasure of hosting Dr Jean Grondin, Professor, Department of Philosophy, Universite de Montreal
Toronto hosted Dr Kym Maclaren, Professor, Depart of Philosophy, Ryerson University
